Cheque Book Safety Measures.
Dear Customer,
Thank you for banking with Citibank.
As part of our continuous efforts to offer safe and secure banking products and services to our customers, we are pleased to offer cheque book safety measures and RBI cheque book standards compliance checks for your reference.
Tips to keep your Cheque Book safe:
Keep your cheque book in safe custody. Please do not leave it unattended
Never sign blank cheques. You should complete the details on the cheque especially the date, name of the beneficiary and the amount, yourself before signing the instrument.
Always remember to cross the cheques, to prevent misuse
Please ensure that there is no alteration, cancelling or overwriting on cheques. Issue a new cheque if required.
Report any loss of cheque leaves to your bank immediately
Place stop payment instructions for cheque(s) lost / misplaced, immediately
Record all details of cheques issued, for your future reference
Always use your own pen for filling out the cheque details
For cancelling a cheque, please write "CANCEL" across the face of the cheque and strike-off the MICR1 band
Reserve Bank of India's guidelines on cheque's compliance with the CTS -2010 standards:.
As per the latest RBI guidelines, cheques which are not as per CTS -2010 standard will continue to be valid and accepted only up to 31st July, 2013.
Kindly check if your existing cheque book is CTS compliant. Please see below, for instructions on how to identify this.
Please look for the letters "CTS-2010" printed vertically on the cheque leaf (near the perforation on the left side)
If the letters "CTS-2010" are present here, your cheque book is CTS-2010 compliant
If your existing cheque book is not CTS-2010 compliant, you should apply for a new one through any of the following modes:
Login to Citibank Online and under the 'Banking' tab, click on link 'Other Banking Services' -> 'Request Cheque Book'.
Visit your nearest Citibank ATM and select option 'Request Cheque Book'.
SMS CHQBOOK xxxx to 52484 from your registered mobile number with Citibank, where xxxx refers to the last 4 digits of your Citibank ATM / Debit Card. E.g. If your Citibank ATM / Debit Card no. is 5081 2544 0597 1234, then SMS CHQBOOK 1234 to 52484.
(For subscribers OTHER THAN Aircel / Airtel / Vodafone / Idea, please send the SMS to 09880752484.)
Contact your branch service managers who will be able to assist you.
We would strongly urge you to keep your cheque book in safe custody to prevent misuse. In case of further queries, kindly contact your service manager.
Assuring you of our best service at all times.
